Writing Update

  • I wrote a short story about murderous lesbian swan-maidens this week titled, not particularly creatively, “The Swan-Maidens.” As part of the research for this story, I learned about Swedish river names and read this incredibly thorough and fascinating article about the folklore of Animal Brides by Terri Windling.
  • I also am planning to do NaNoWriMo for the first time ever this month, and I spent some time sketching out a rough plot for a possible novel about doppelgangers and political intrigue and alternate universes.

    • The Search continues! Every time I think I’m close to the end of this draft another plot thread elbows its way end. Wanderings on the Internet

Writing Update

  • The Search continues. Sirens was in Denver, but it was all the way on the other side of Denver, so it took two hours by transit to get there. Ample writing time! I wrote about 9k words, bringing the current draft up to 128k words total. Sorcha is machinating. Shayat is defying current orders. As one does.

  • The Search keeps going! I’m definitely in the endzone, and I’ve started making notes about the direction I want the rewrite to go in, but I’ve still got to write this draft to the end. 5k more words this week brings the draft up to 119k words in total.

Wanderings on the Internet

Writing Update

  • I am sooooo close to the end of the first draft of The Search. I am getting impatient; I want the draft to be done so I can raze it to the ground and get started with the redraft. Make the book better, stronger, tighter. *Sigh* It’s not done yet, though. Sorcha and Shayat have reunited. Both have some catching up to do.

Writing Update

  • Started another interactive fiction piece. This one’s about ambivalent superheroes.
  • I am sooo ready to be done with the first draft of The Search so I can burn it down and rewrite it into a better second draft. Alas, I’m not done *quite* yet, but I am 5k close (bringing the total word count for draft 1 to 110k). Sorcha and Shayat are currently dealing with some (quite literal) ships in the night miscommunication issues.

Wanderings on the Internet

  • Ever wonder what Ariah, Sorcha, and Shayat look like in my head? I popped into the #CastYourMC tag on twitter and fancasted Ariah. I put it all on Storify for the curious among you.
  • Haven’t picked up your copy of Brian C. Baer’s Bad Publicity yet? Maybe my fan fiction will inspire you to grab one!

Writing Update

  • Much progress was made on The Search! While on my merry public chariot, I cranked out an additional 4k words this week, bringing the total thus far to 98k words. Sorcha brimmed with self-discovery, and Shayat strong-armed a pirate king into some social reformations.
